ECI Appoints New Police Chiefs for Telangana Elections

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has nominated new Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in many Telangana districts in preparation for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections. This action follows the October 11 transfer of numerous IAS and IPS officers, including the chiefs of Hyderabad, Warangal, and Nizamabad.

The ECI reportedly transferred these officials owing to concerns about their “partisan attitude, laxity, and unsatisfactory performance.” The ECI has directed that the positions of the transferred officials be handed over to their replacements.

Changes and Appointments

  • Amber Kishore Jha has been appointed as Warangal’s Commissioner of Police.
  • Nizamabad’s new Commissioner of Police is Kalmeshwar Shingenavar.
  • The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Vikram Singh Mann, has taken over as the Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad (in-charge).
  • Several Superintendents of Police (SPs) for several districts have been appointed, including Bhupalpalli, Nagarkurnool, Kamareddy, Suryapet, Sangareddy, Jagityal, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahbubabad, Narayanpet, and Mahbubnagar.

Portfolio Reorganization

In addition to these appointments, the ECI has asked Telangana’s Chief Secretary, A. Santhi Kumari, to relinquish her positions as principal secretary of excise, commercial taxes, and endowments. The ECI has requested that principal secretary-level individuals be appointed to these positions immediately.

These modifications are part of the Telangana Assembly elections preparations, and the ECI intends to guarantee that the police force is adequately structured and coordinated in the run-up to the polls.
