Five-day exhibition on Quran and Islamic relics inaugurated at Salar Jung Museum

A five-day exhibition on the Holy Quran and the art of Islamic calligraphy was inaugurated on Tuesday at Salar Jung Museum in the presence of State Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali. The exhibition was held in the Mir Abbas Yar Jung Hall, Western Block.

The museum exhibits a full chapter of the world’s largest Quran manuscript, measuring 2 x 2 meters (when opened), a height of 2 meters and a width of 1 meter.

The exhibition is taking place during Ramzan with the collaboration of Noor International Microfilm Centre, New Delhi, Salar Jung Museum, Jamia Nizamia, Siasat daily, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Urdu University, and Idara Adabiyat Urdu.

He said the cultural and civilizational ties between India and Iran have existed since ancient times and continue to thrive, especially in the field of Islamic calligraphy. He added that India and Iran are the two major centres of Islamic calligraphy in the world. Iranian calligraphers have played a key role in the promotion of calligraphy in Hyderabad Deccan.

IRI head Dr Aga Nasiri travelled from Delhi to attend the event. Mehdi Shahrukhi, Iran Consul General in Hyderabad, was delighted with the exhibition. The Siasat daily displayed 130 calligraphic samples, while the Noor International Microfilm Centre had 135 samples.

Audience members were drawn to the samples. During the inaugural function, three books by eminent Islamic scholars were also released. To benefit those who wish to learn calligraphy, a five-day workshop has also begun.
