Following heavy inflows, authorities lifted 6 out of 15 gates of Osman Sagar

Starting the day with two doors remained opened at Osman Sagar Lake on Saturday, the authorities were found busy all the day lifting the crest gates of the reservoir one after another and the tally touched down to total six gates by the end of the day as heavy inflows from catchment areas continue marking into the Lake whole day.

According to official statistics, a volume of inflows in the Lake suddenly jumped from 200 cusecs to 1600 cusecs during the last 24 hours. While the authorities recorded 200 cusecs of inflow on July 22, the volume of inrush was found rapidly increased today morning with 1600 cusecs of inflow has been recorded early on Saturday morning that put the official on alert mode.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) authorities – who are manning the reservoir, have found since morning that heavy inflows keep on marking into the water body from catchment areas and resulting in swelling of water level. As against the full tank capacity of 1790.00 feet (3.900 TMC) in the Lake, water level found stood at 1786.65 feet (3.146 TMC) at Saturday morning that out of the blue reached to the mark of 1787.20 feet (3.264 TMC) by 8.30 pm.

Sensing the enormity, the HMWSSB authorities started pulling up the crest gates one after another to feed Musi River. By the end of the day, the authorities pulled almost six out of a total 15 gates of Osman Sagar Lake upto three feet height to release 1788 cusecs of water into Musi River thereby to reduce the pressure over the reservoir.

On the other hand, the Himayat Sagar Lake is still lagging behind in receiving inflows from catchment areas unlike the neighbouring Osman Sagar Lake. As against the 1600 cusecs of inflows in Osman Sagar, the Himayat Sagar Lake has recorded 300 cusecs of inrush on Saturday which contributes to a slightest increase of 100 cusecs of inflows being recorded during the same period. As no significant inflows were reported into the reservoir, the authorities kept opened a door upto a height of 0.6 feet while another upto a feet height.
