Following heavy inflows, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reached to full capacity

As a result of copious rains in catchment areas coupled with heavy inflows, both the historic lakes such as the Himayat Sagar and the Osman Sagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad City has reached to their full capacity on Friday that prompted the officials to lift total five crest gates one after another during the last 24 hours.

According to reports, the water level in Himayat Sagar has reached the crest level that prompted the officials to lift three gates here to release the pressure over the lake. As against the full tank level of 1763.50 feet (2.970 TMC) at Himayat Sagar, the water level reached to its full capacity on Friday as inflows were found marking into the lake from catchment areas.

According to official statistics, the Himayat Sagar Lake on the outskirts of Hyderabad City is receiving 1800 cusecs of inflows from catchment areas since Thursday. The officials from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply  and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), who are helming the lakes, have lifted three crest gates upto two feet during the last 24 hours and released 2060 cusecs of water into Musi River.

Similarly, the Osman Sagar Lake too is faring well this year in terms of receiving inflows from catchment areas. Spur over the swelling inflows that resulted into cramming up of the lake, the HMWSSB officials have lifted two gates here too upto two feets on Friday.

As against the full tank level of 1970 feet (3.900 TMC), the present water level has touched the mark of full capacity on Friday. The Lake received 450 cusecs of water on Friday while the officials released 476 cusecs of water into Musi River to release the pressure over the Lake.

It is pertinent to mention here that, only last week the officials at both the reservoirs have shut the doors following no inflows were witnessed into the Lakes. On September 28 the officials were found pulling down the gates of both the reservoirs after recording no fresh inflows from catchment areas but now they lifted a few of them again on Friday to release excess water into Musi River as both the Lakes were reached to their full capacity.
