Following outcry, the Yogi Govt. bring ‘Scholarship Balm’ for poor Muslim students in UP

Following an outcry over the way the Muslims are being treated and their properties are being targeted in Uttar Pradesh in the name of crackdown against criminals using bulldozers to trample their houses, cow vigilante, love jihad and madarsa survey etc, the Yogi Adityanath Government has now come up with ‘Scholarship Balm’ for poor Muslim students studying in Madrasas in the state.

It is said that a provision to provide scholarships to poor Muslim students studying in Madrasas made in the state budget. Besides, they would also be facilitated with kits that the government says will help the students learn mathematics and science. Apart from this allocation of funds was also made for setting up computer labs in madrasas.

While presenting the budget, the Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said, “Poor pre-matric minority students having maximum parental income source of Rs.2.50 lakhs will be benefited with scholarship not exceeding to a cap of Rs.3000 per annum. Similarly, the post-matric students from minority communities having maximum parental income source of Rs.2.00 lakhs will also get scholarship benefits.

He also claimed that a number of 24 hostels and 11 school buildings have been constructed so far in Muslim majority areas to help girl students pursue education. The government has allocated a fund to the tune of Rs.6.81 crore for the construction of schools and hostels during the financial year 2023-24.

He also said that steps were taken to introduce modern education in the schools as well as in madrasas. “This scheme will ensure monthly honorarium of Rs.6000 to teachers having graduation and Rs.12,000 for teachers with higher grades to impart modern subjects like Hindi, English, Maths and Science etc., in Madrasas and schools besides B.Ed courses,” the minister informed.

Apart from this, he said, Rs.50,000 will be provided for distribution of Maths and Science kits. In addition to this, provisions were made to provide Rs.1 lakh grant each for setting up computer labs in Madrasas. It is learnt that the state has around 23 madrasas of which 561 are receiving grants from the government.
