Footfall improve at Hyderabad Airport with number of flights increasing

Amid the reports of covid-19 cases are swelling again in the country with over 43,000 fresh cases with 900 fatalities recorded on Thursday, the flights from different countries keep landing at Shamshabad International Airport, and the air traffic movement is gradually improving.

During the last two months, the Hyderabad International Airport saw a notable increase in the number of flights landing from all the domestic destinations. Following the arrivals of over 100 flights on 1st June, the air traffic movement has gained a significant increase in the takeoffs and landings during the month that touched to a 199 mark on 27th June. The trend is keep moving upward direction even this month of July.

While passengers from different countries especially from Gulf are keep moving in and out the city, the number of domestic flights across country too improved since June bringing the trend of traveling back again. Even the airport authorities are affirming that the travelling trend is setting again with gradually increasing flights and the footfall.

“With this the footfall of the passengers, which stood somewhere around 10,000 on a single day on 1st June has reached to 22,000 on 27th June to say the least. This would say that the influx of the passengers have swelled up to twofold during last month. This could be translated into a ramp-up footfall of four lakhs domestic passengers besides 35,000 international travelers during the last month of June,” informed the sources.

Presently, the sources added, flights from 11 countries like Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Dubai, Sharjah, Kuwait, Kualalumpur, Maldives, Singapore and London are disembarking the International Airport besides domestic landings. As against the 550 flights per day being reported pre-pandemic period, the airport at present is receiving 170 to 180 domestic flights every day besides 15 to 20 international arrivals.

Though a significant drop is being witnessed in the arrivals, the sources said, the aviation ministry is the authority to take a call with regard to allow flights from new destinations given the covid-19 situation in a particular country. “However, we as an airport operator could always make ourselves ready for flight operations from across the country with facilities like RT-PCR testing lab etc for the passengers boarding or arriving from various destinations. While the test is compulsory for the passengers of international flights, the rules are varying for domestic passengers in different states,” he explained.
