Formula-E to be held on February 11, 2023 in Hyderabad

The FIA Formula E series is all set to make its debut in Hyderabad on February 11, 2023, becoming the world’s first sport to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint from the very beginning.

FIA World Motor Sport Council has approved the Formula E Championship calendar for the ninth season (2022-23), with Hyderabad hosting the fourth race after Mexico and, Saudi Arabia hosting a double-header.

This will be the second largest global sporting event to be hosted in India after the Formula One race at Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida from 2011 to 2013.

As of now, Hyderabad is the only city in India to be featured by the FIA. In January, officials from Formula E and the Telangana government signed an agreement to host the race in Hyderabad.

Founded in 2014, Formula E is an electric single-seater racing championship granted World Championship status by the FIA during its seventh season (2020-21).

From the beginning, Mahindra Racing has been a part of Formula E. Since the competition’s inception, only Karun Chandhok has raced for the Indian team.

Unlike Formula One, which takes place on specially constructed circuits, Formula E races, also called E-Prix, take place on existing streets or street circuits.

A street car race exclusively for electric vehicles will take place near Tank Bund on a road that is 2.3 7 kilometers long and has eight turns. The Formula E series boasts a cumulative viewership of 500 million, promoting electric mobility and bringing racing to the public.

Announcing the news on Twitter, IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao welcomed Formula-E to Hyderabad. Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, said the administration was all charged up and ready to make the city the best.
