Funeral services for multiple religions to be offered at Hyderabad’s Mukti Ghat

The Telangana government is leading the way in the country by constructing a unique Mukti Ghat in Fathullaguda, LB Nagar, where people of various religions can perform the last rites of their departed.

This facility, which will serve Hindus, Muslims, and Christians, was built on a 6.5-acre plot of land by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and is expected to be inaugurated on Tuesday by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao.

“The idea to build Mukti Ghat came from the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. This is a unique initiative in the country and a series of environmental conservation measures have also been adopted while developing this facility, ” Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (MRDCL) Chairman and LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy said.

The funeral complex at Mukti Ghat was designed with a ‘zero pollution’ concept in mind, with electrical furnaces to reduce pollution, landscapes for greenery, and a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) with a capacity of 50 KLD.

The water will be recycled and used to keep the environment green, while music bands will not be permitted inside the Mukti Ghat to avoid noise pollution.

Another feature of the Mukti Ghat is the live streaming of last rites, allowing family members and well-wishers of the deceased who are unable to attend in person to participate virtually.

Unlike other facilities that only perform the final rites, the Mukti Ghat also has an Apara Karma Bhavan where Hindus can perform the 10th day rituals.

All of the amenities available at the Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills are also available at Mukti Ghat, including an administrative block, security arrangements, ash storage facilities, washrooms, waiting halls, seating arrangements, and other amenities that will make it easier for grieving families to conduct the last rites of the departed.
