Gauhati High Court Requests Assam To Obey COVID-19 Rules Strictly

On Thursday the Gauhati High Court directed Assam Police to thoroughly uphold wearing masks and other COVID-19 measures in a conference into an open intrigue prosecution or PIL that said those disregarding laws were not being halted successfully over the state.

Alluding to a request provided by the state Health and Family Welfare Department on May 8 this year, the Chief Justice urged the District Heads from Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police and Officers-in-Charge of the Police Stations to be on high alert in the city.

It requested that they observe rules that those not wearing any face-covering ought to be penalized ₹ 500 first time and ₹ 1,000 for following offenses.

In case the regulations are infringed, a fine be inflicted as provided in the order dated 08.05.2020. The penalty imposed on the violators and thus collected be brought to the notice of the Court through the Office of the learned Senior Standing Counsel, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Assam

The Deputy Commissioners to include officers/officials from different Departments who would investigate various areas in their particular townships, including Sub-Divisions to find out whether the respective police stations/police officers are complying with the regulations, was also instructed.

The State agencies have lost in fulfilling the necessary use of proper face covers by the citizens of the State who move out of their houses. The citizens do not sustain proper social distancing in public or workplaces. This has resulted in an extensive spread of the Pandemic, The applicant, in the PIL, had featured.

The respondent, Devojit Saikia, senior counsel, Health and Family Welfare Department, of Assam, complained that a substantial portion of the fines was being blocked as a consequence of one detail or the other. “The government is in the process of meeting all those objections, however, one after the other technical objection is raised,”  he also added.

Assam reported 1.15 lakh COVID cases so far including 323 deaths, as per news organization PTI.
