GHMC acquired 30 out of 163 properties to helm Zoo Park Bridge

After completing a wobbling land acquisition process for Bahadurpura Bridge, the GHMC has now embarked on another mammoth task of clearing 163 properties that are coming in the way of another grade separator project from Aramghar to Zoo Park on the city outskirts.

According to Superintending Engineer (Projects), South Zone, (GHMC) Datupant, “A total 163 properties that are getting affected, 30 has already been taken over and razed down to pave way for the construction of the bridge. Although an amount of Rs.175 crore has been allocated for the land acquisition to realise the project, Rs.15 crore was spent so far towards payment of compensation to the owners of affected properties.”

“Of the total Rs.15 crore amount of compensation so far paid to the owners of properties got affected under the project, only Dar-ul-Uloom at Shivarampally was paid Rs.10 crore as a compensation for the portion of property it has lost to the project while others got nearly Rs.5 crore,” the official informed.

“The payment of compensation is being done as and when the documentation process is completed by following due procedure,” he said, adding that “The land acquisition process is moving as usual and will continue till all the decks will be cleared for the project.”

Meanwhile, the Aramghar to Zoo Park grade separator too was moving at a snarl pace as most of the piers are not yet grounded despite barely a year of time left to reach the drop-dead date of March 2023.

A 4.048 kilometre long grade separator project from Aramghar to Zoo Park is being built with a fund support of Rs.636.80 crores under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP). The bridge is part of a series of grade separators being built to form a complete inner circle around the city aimed at solving the ever increasing traffic issue in the metropolis.

Out of a total 119 pillars, only 10 have been completed so far during the last seven months while the works of remaining 109 piers are in a different stage. Surprisingly only a year’s time is left for the project to complete the deadline of March 2023 when the project ought to be ready to open for the public.
