GHMC aiming to complete 35,444 2BHKs by March 2023

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has already completed 64,556 dwelling units. It now aims to complete 35,444 more by March 2023. As a result, the State government’s flagship housing scheme is set to record major achievements very soon

As part of his instruction to officials of line departments on Monday, Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao requested them to prepare an action plan within a week for the housing distribution.

It was asked that the officials form teams to identify beneficiaries and allocate houses only to those who do not have a home. Next week, another meeting will be held regarding the distribution of houses.

In order to provide a dignified living to economically weaker sections, these houses are being built under the 2BHK concept initiated by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. One lakh houses were proposed at 111 locations within the GHMC limits at an estimated cost of Rs 8,598 crore, and many new houses have already been constructed and handed over to beneficiaries.

Developed under the Telangana government’s Double Bed Room Housing Scheme, all housing colonies have amenities comparable to those built by private developers.

The colonies are said to have CC roads, sewer lines, electricity, and drinking water sumps.

In addition to good housing, several beneficiaries were guaranteed a good view from their homes. The Ambedkar Nagar 2BHK Housing Colony near Hussain Sagar, which consists of 330 houses, is one such example, where families who had been living in a run-down slum for decades were relocated to brand new homes overlooking the lake.

Another instance is the 2BHK Dignity Housing Colony, Pilligudiselu, near Chanchalguda, which has 288 houses. The residential cluster developed here is surrounded by several historic structures that can be seen from their balconies and terraces.
