Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been focusing to increase the number of Public Toilets in the vicinity of Hyderabad. To provide the maximum facility to the general masses, the officials have already fastened the process to built series of new toilets.
The population of the twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad crossed over one crore and daily lakhs of people are on the streets for several works. A large number of villagers also visiting the Hyderabad, however, they are facing a lot of inconvenience and hardships due to less number of toilets.
The target of building 3000 toilets has been set by 15th August. Most of the people have forced to pee near the roadside due to the unavailability of the toilets, this prompt failure of the Swach Bharat initiative of the GHMC and the increases the diseases as well. The initiative of the Corporation to construct the toilets at the petrol pumps also turn futile. In view of these conditions, the officials have decided to build the toilets on a large scale. 400 toilets are existing in the limits of GHMC out of which 133 are BOT, 109 are Prefabricated, 46 slubs,57 engineerings,15 are She toilets and 20 are Community toilets, however many of them are in dilapidated conditions and not according to the norms of the GHMC.
According to the norms, one toilet is needed in every 500 meters and 2500 toilets should be in the Hyderabad. The corporation has decided to build 3000 public toilets. On the direction of Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development the officials have reviewed the different models of the toilets of several cities and decided to start their construction. The process has initiated to build nearly 3000 public toilets near the main traffic junctions, main roads and near the parks under the BOT method. It is estimated that as many as 500 toilets would be ready in each zone. The GHMC has pointed out the places in LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Charminar, Serilingampally and Khairtabad zones to have the facility. 229 places have identified in the Secunderabad Zone as well. The works of nearly 140 toilets have completed and the works are going on in the remaining 237 places.
