GHMC gearing up to hold summer camps

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is gearing up to hold a summer coaching camp from April 27 and May 31.

The civic body authorities are taking up all steps including the restoration of swimming pools, sports grounds (853), and indoor and outdoor stadiums as well as deploying 780 qualified coaches in 44 different sports for the camps.

The coaching camps would allow children aged 6 to 16 to discover their extracurricular talents, and those who excelled in them would be identified and trained throughout the year.

Following the camp, the children would be given opportunities to participate in tournaments and other events.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer coaching camps were suspended until 2021 and resumed in the summer of 2022 after restoration and maintenance work was completed.

The camp cited the participation of over one lakh children participating in the program. Officials stated that they would spend 1.42 crore this year to establish 1,386 camp centres in the city. Officials stated that they would also purchase new equipment to replace the obsolete ones.
