GHMC to focus more on sanitation, healthcare

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is coming up with an action plan for six months with a focus on the issues of sanitation and healthcare in the city. As part of this, the Mayor along with corporators and officials will coordinate for overall development of sanitation and other civic issues through meetings at zonal, circle and ward level.

Disputing charges that sanitation was an issue for the civic body only during Swachh Survekshan, the GHMC Commissioner, Dana Kishore on Tuesday said the civic body has been engaged in planning all aspects related to development of the city.

The Commissioner who undertook surprise inspections in the city today told presspersons that awareness campaigns involving residential welfare associations, voluntary agencies and self-help groups would be taken up in the coming days on issues such as release of water on roads and ban on plastics. “The awareness aims to make the citizens also take up responsibility for the overall development of the city,” he said.

The GHMC has been concentrating on the SRDP works and efforts were on to complete them in a time bound manner for which regular monitoring was in place. Dana Kishore said the works on one lakh double bed room houses taken up at a cost of Rs.8,000 crores were in progress and would be completed by the end of this year. The GHMC is ensuring all necessary basic minimum
facilities at the double bed room housing sites for the convenience of the beneficiaries and providing them parks, play grounds, drinking water, street lights, drainage and other amenities, he said.

Srinivas Reddy, Zonal Commissioner and senior officials of various wings of GHMC participated in the surprise inspections at Kapra, Uppal, Hayathnagar and LB Nagar circles taken up during early hours today. (NSS)
