GHMC to provide skill training to youth from economically weaker sections

As part of its efforts to improve the living standards of people from economically weaker sections, and to provide good job opportunities to unemployed youth, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is offering skill development training.

More than 600 people will be trained by the corporation, with women being given priority. There are 1,466 notified and non-notified slums in GHMC’s 4,846 colonies.

GHMC officials say that despite many youngsters having good qualifications, they lack skills. As a result, the GHMC has decided to implement training programs in Kukatpally on a pilot basis.

GHMC will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lighthouse Community Foundation (LCF) to train slum dwellers aged 18-35 in addition to self-employment training. The training will commence in the Serilingampally zone after the standing committee approves.

In the Model Market building, HUDA Colony, the LCF will establish industry training centers in cooperation with MNCs.

Depending on each youth’s education and eligibility, LCF will place them in companies. Earlier, the LCF and the Pune Municipal Corporation had provided employment to many people in factories and companies, helping them to improve their standard of living.

Self-employment training and financial assistance were provided even to the uneducated. Of the 11,000 registered jobs in Pune municipality, it offered 7,200. It provides free training to about 60 people every year.

One of the LCF officials said they would offer training in IT, ITes (information technology-enabled services), Java, CCNA, data entry, non-voice BPO, web designing, computer hardware, networking, general duty assistant, automobile repairs of two, three, and four wheelers, photography, mobile repairing, and bakery preparation.

Nurses, cooks, beauticians, fitness instructors, and service-oriented programs are available to women. LCF may not offer some courses, so training will be provided in other institutions according to the candidate’s preference.
