Gold and Cigarette Smuggling Foiled at Hyderabad Airport, Authorities Seize Contraband

On Monday, authorities confiscated 1.93 kilogrammes of gold and 62,400 cigarette sticks from four travellers at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. In the first instance, a traveller arriving from Dubai was discovered with 1399 grammes of gold bars valued at Rs. 84.8 lakhs. The traveller had planned to smuggle the gold out of the airport with the help of a staff member, but their attempt was foiled by Customs agents.

In another example, a person travelling from Jeddah was discovered with 526 grammes of gold worth Rs. 31.8 lakhs secreted in their rectum using two capsules. Customs officials successfully recovered the gold.

Furthermore, two passengers from Bangkok and Dubai were discovered to be in possession of 62,400 contraband cigarette sticks. The authorities will conduct additional investigations into the seized materials.
