Harassment during online classes- shirtless men pass vulgar comments, play porn clips

Amid an array of shocking incidents revolving around one single matter in Lucknow, an increasing number of female teachers have started complaining regarding the harassment they are being subjected to during online classes started in view of the pandemic.

In their complaints, the female teachers objected and said that young men have consistently begun appearing suddenly on their digital screens, often being shirtless. These men allegedly pass cheap comments during the classes, disrupting the lessons with their vulgar actions. Some of them are also playing porn videos on their computer to make all the attendees watch the same.

The teachers believe that the girls of the institution in Lucknow are guilty of this as they have apparently sent their login credentials to those men.

An anonymous female teacher said, “It is clear that some girl students are sharing their login id and password with these boys who intrude into the online classes. The boys come bare-chested, wearing shorts, and pass lewd remarks.”

There have been reports of similar events in two more degree colleges of women and one girls’ school situated in Lucknow itself. In these centres, the virtual classes got suspended for some duration of time.

A senior member of the administration and faculty of the one of the colleges who witnessed this issue claimed that the institution has found the girls associated to this drama and shared their login details to the men. He said that although the college did not report them to the police or even informed them as it could fetch a bad name to the girls, they have issued strict warnings to them.

All the girls identified in the matter from the three educational centres have received warnings of rustication from their respective colleges if they continue their act of sharing their login ids and passwords with brothers, boyfriends or men in general.

However, the students seem to say otherwise in this blame-game. A student belonging to the first year of B.A said that holding them accountable for the incidents isn’t right as the world knows how simple it is to hack online classes through the internet and hackers can interrupt the classes without the login details as well. She further said, “…the college officials are blaming us. Why would any girl student invite trouble by sharing login id with the boys?”

The virtual classes had been started as the world became tangled in the covid-19 pandemic. As the physical classes aren’t safe for all the students to attend, given the fact that the virus is very contagious, the government brought the option of online lessons through mobiles, computers and TV for helping students remain educationally connected and complete even during the time of crisis so that they don’t miss the crucial time of their life.

As far as the incident and the safe tactics are concerned, Rakshit Tandon, a famous cyber expert, said that even though educational centres like schools and colleges have employed the benefits of internet and technology to teach the students for their betterment, they are not aware of the ways to remain protected from the ill-effects of the same, referring to hacking. While citing an example he explained the importance of changing the default passwords given to students. Along with that, he said, students and schools do not have enough knowledge regarding security.
