Harish Rao directs officials to expedite the works of nine new medical colleges

As per the latest reports, Health Minister T Harish Rao directed medical and health officials on Saturday to expedite the works of nine new medical colleges.

During a review meeting held here, the Minister directed officials to complete the tender processes and begin the works.

Last year, under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, a record was set by establishing eight new medical colleges in one go. “With the same spirit, steps need to be taken to commence MBBS classes this year in Karimnagar, Khammam, Kamareddy, Vikarabad, Jangaon, Nirmal, Bhupalpalli, Sircilla and Asifabad districts,” he said.

Harish Rao informed the officials that all preparations should have been taken up by the time the National Medical Council team arrived for inspection.

Instructions were also issued to expedite the completion of works for mother and child health (MCH) centres and the readiness of the MCH centre at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

The meeting also went over the status of 23 CHCs, 13 Telangana Diagnostic Centres in various districts, mortuaries, and central drug stores. The Minister stated that nine critical care centres were being established near areas with a high number of road accidents and asked officials to have these facilities ready as soon as possible to provide care to accident victims.

A three-month buffer was maintained and instructions were given to ensure that medicines were available at all hospitals.

Harish Rao also instructed officials to monitor and maintain the equipment at government hospitals, with hospital superintendents in charge of this.

The Health Minister urged the NRI alumni to adopt new medical colleges to advance medical education and research and assured them of all necessary assistance in the matter.

On Wednesday, a delegation of 11 prominent Telangana NRI Doctors from the USA called on Harish Rao and praised the measures being taken by the Telangana government to improve healthcare delivery and infrastructure, making Telangana a role model for the nation in the healthcare sector.

They praised the groundbreaking idea of establishing a medical college in each of the 33 districts in the State, which was unprecedented in any State in India to date.
