Hathras Victim of Gang Rape Dies in Delhi Hospital

Aligarh: A 19-year-old Dalit victim of rap, who was gang-raped and left paralyzed by four men belonging to the upper caste, passed away a fortnight after the assault in a Delhi hospital on Tuesday.

She was moved to the Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital on Monday night after her condition worsened.

On the 14th of September, the casualty was dragged around by the dupatta around her neck to a field when she had gone to gather cattle fodder, which harmed her spinal cord. At the point when she was held down, she reportedly bit her own tongue which caused a profound cut.

Head of neurosurgery, Fakhrul Hoda, at the Aligarh medical clinic where she was being treated, told journalists that: Surgery to fix her spine could only have been done after her condition improved. The damage to the spinal cord appeared to be permanent.

The rap victim, the youngest of the five siblings, was on life support for some period of time. The young girl was referred to Delhi on Monday on her father’s appeal. Her brother went with her to Delhi.

Seven days after she was hospitalized, the young girl told the police that she had been a victim of gang rape by four men whom she additionally named.

Each of the four accused she named — Sandip, Lavkush, Ramu, and Ravi — were taken into custody for gang rape, attempt to kill, and under sections of the SC-ST Act, Delhi Police are preparing to register a charge sheet.

Her father had told journalists on Sunday that the family members of the four charged have been threatening them for standing up. The young lady had likewise disclosed to her family that the four men had threatened her with critical outcomes in the event that she educated anybody about the incident.

Prakash Kumar, Hathras additional superintendent of police, stated that section 302 of IPC will be included in the FIR following the death of the gang-rape victim.

Rs 4.12 lakh has been given to the kin of the rape victim as compensation and the rest of the amount will be provided after the charges are proved.

He said:  The body of the victim will be brought to her village after post-mortem.
