HC displeasure on Private Hospital for the exorbitant bill of covid 19 treatment

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court expressed its displeasure on a private Hospital of the Hyderabad which insisted to clear the remaining dues of the bills to handover the body of a Covid19 victim who has died while undergoing the treatment of this infection.

The victim was a former soldier. The court has directed the Police to initiate the steps to hand over the body to the relatives.

While hearing the petition of the deceased son Naveen Kumar Sharma, the High court has made central government as well as the state medical and health director as defendants and directed them to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit a report on whether the bill asks excess bill. It has ordered to take strict action if the amount of the bill is excessive.

Naveen Kumar Sharma seek urgent hearing of the petition and asked the court to direct the authorities to hand over his father’s body. Pratap Narayan Sanghi counsel for the petitioner said that Ramkumar Sharma was admitted to this Hospital with Corona on the 24th of last month however the authorities of the Hospital have informed the family members that he was dead at 4.40 pm on Sunday.

He said that Rs 8.68 lakh was billed for 8 days and even if he paid Rs 4 lakh, the hospital authorities have asked to clear the remaining amount of the bill. Responding to this contention, the judge ordered the Ramgopal pet police to take immediate steps to ensure that the body of the deceased hand over to his family members to conduct the funeral. The court has posted the next hearing on September 11. It may be recalled that the High Court had earlier also expressed its displeasure on the Private Hospitals of the State Capital Hyderabad for exorbitant bills for the treatment of the Covid19 patients.
