HC expressed displeasure private hospitals for surplus bills

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has once again expressed its outrage and displeasure over the plight of private hospitals that are involved in inappropriate and surplus billing for the treatment of the Covid19 patients.

The High Court on Wednesday heard a petition of Retired employee O.M. Goud against the two noted Private hospitals of the Hyderabad who are alleging overcharging for the Covid19 cases. The petitioner has alleged that these hospitals have breached the government conditions and rules by charging the exorbitant bills.

He pointed out that the state government had allotted land to several hospitals at subsidized rates on the condition that they will provide free medical care to some of the poor patients however these hospitals are not providing the free medical facilities to the poor.

On this occasion, the High Court questioned the government as to why the lands were not taken back if they are violating the conditions? The Court was amazed that these hospitals are even not handing over the bodies if the bills are not clear.

It has directed the government to take strict action against private hospitals that are charging high fees. The bench also ordered the state to furnish the details of these hospitals. The bench has commented that it was not sufficient to revoke the licenses and to take back the lands.

It may be recalled that there are numerous complaints against private hospitals for inappropriate and surplus billing. Two days back also the Court had expressed its displeasure on a private Hospital of the State Capital Hyderabad which insisted to clear the remaining dues of the bills to handover the body of a Covid19 victim who has died while undergoing the treatment of this infection.

The victim was a former soldier. The court has directed the Police to initiate the steps to hand over the body to the relatives.
