Heatwave warning issued across Telangana

For four days from Friday, the India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning across Telangana, particularly in Adilabad, Jagtial, Hanamkonda, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kumaram Bheem, Hyderabad, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Rangareddy, Nirmal, and Bhadradri Kothagudem.

Several places in the state have seen temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Adilabad was 41.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Nizamabad and Ramagundam recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius as well.

It is likely that Hyderabad will reach 40 degrees Celsius in the next few days based on the 39.7 degrees Celsius it recorded recently. On Thursday, the state-run Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius at Asifnagar.

On the other hand, IMD also forecasts partly cloudy skies in the city with the possibility of thunder lightning.

School timings reduced in the state

Due to a heatwave forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Telangana government has reduced the school timings in the state.

An order by the Director of School Education stated: It has been decided to reduce the timings of half-day schools from March 31 to April 6, in view of the heatwave forecast. The schools i.e. primary, upper primary and high schools under all managements i.e. government, government-aided and private management shall function from 8 am to 11 30 am and mid-day meals shall be provided prior to 11 30 am.

The order further stated: All the heads of departments, the regional joint directors of school education and district education officers in the state are hereby directed to communicate the above orders to the schools functioning under all managements and monitor their implementation.

IMD has forecast an increase in temperatures earlier this week, saying that while dry weather should prevail in most parts of Telangana, maximum temperatures could rise by 2 degrees to 3 degrees in isolated pockets of the state.
