Helpline for snake rescue on Nagpanchami

Hyderabad: This Nag Panchami Festival, Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh jointly with Wildlife Protection Society and other Animal Welfare Organisations will be on vigil to rescue Snakes from so called Snake Charmers or Saperas on  July 25.

Every year during Nag Panchami, Cobras are tortured and Defanged unethically. Snakes are forcefully fed with milk and other fluids which act as potential toxins to their body resulting in severe indigestion and eventual death. Catching snakes or causing injury to them is them is a legal offence which can lead to imprisonment under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

In a Press Release Mahesh Agarwal Secretary of Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh appealed to the devotees not to feed milk to a snake. The snake can’t digest milk hence it will be harmful for its body. He asked to devotees to perform the poojas only at their homes or at the nearest temples by following all the safety measures of CORONA.

Snake Charmers subject the snakes to various types of cruelties which in turn kill the snakes in the near future. We urge people of Telangana to discourage this cruel practice and perform poojas only in Temples.

Due to CORONO  we are not deputing our volunteers on the roads. If anybody found any snake charmer displaying the snake they can call to the helpline mentioned above or can call to the local police station. We will send our volunteers to the area and inturn rescue the snake. The rescued snakes will be released will be released into a natural habitat as per the direction of Forest Department. A dedicated Helpline in this regard has been established.
