The issue of delay in releasing Aasara pensions is continuing to take a toll on disabled persons especially in GHMC limits who are extremely upset over non-addressing of the problem by the authorities despite several representations.
The beneficiaries said the whole month of May has passed without Aasara pension while the senior citizens and disabled people apart from beneficiaries of other categories keep on making rounds of concerned GHMC offices just to enquire about the release of their dole.
“The date of pension was dragged from 5th to 28th of every month while the whole month of May has passed without the pension. The suffering of Aasra pensioners especially the disabled people was taken as granted by the government as it is releasing the pension of its own volition,” rued A.Srinivasulu, a disabled person from Gagan Pahad, Rajendranagar.
Expressing dismay over the delay in releasing Aasara pension, Shaikh Mahboob, a disabled person from Gagan Pahad said, “Though the cut off date is 5th of every month, the pension is not being released throughout the month that cause several issues especially to disabled people for whom the meagre amount of Rs.3,016 every month too holds prominence at least to secure medicines. The issue of delay in releasing the pension continues since the last two years and several reminders, protests and representations to the authorities concerned failed to yield any result.”
It is against this background, he said, that we have convened a meeting of disabled people at Budvel in Rajendranagar wherein it was decided to hold a protest soon to bring the sufferings of the physically challenged people to the notice of government. “Though we are not sure whether the government would lend a sympathetic year to our issues but what can we do more than protesting democratically against the injustice meted out to the disabled people,” rued Mahboob.
