Hotels in Hyderabad to come under scrutiny of GHMC officials

Hotels in Hyderabad will soon face increased scrutiny, as Mayor G Vijaya Lakshmi directed officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Monday to take measures to combat food adulteration and conduct regular inspections at hotels and eateries throughout the city.

The Mayor pointed out that despite asking for reports on daily inspections by Food Safety Wing, no one submitted them.

The Mayor stated that many allegations have been levelled against food safety officials for failing to take strict action to prevent adulteration. She warned of taking disciplinary action against the officials. Food items, she said, should be checked, and samples should be collected from all shops, including street vendors, hotels, and restaurants.

She directed officials to submit daily reports on food safety inspections and samples collected.

Officials have now been directed to take action against establishments found selling adulterated or subpar food. The GHMC hopes that by doing so, it can improve the quality of food available in Hyderabad while also ensuring the health and safety of its residents.

The Mayor directed that members of grocery store and other business associations be made aware to avoid selling of adulterated and substandard items. She stated that restaurants that break the rules should be issued notices and their licences should be suspended immediately.

It is a positive step because officials can ensure that standards are met by conducting regular inspections at hotels and restaurants and taking action against any violations.

With increased inspections and stricter enforcement, hotels and restaurants will have no choice but to pay attention to the quality of food served in their establishments.
