Human Rights Activist Sues Twitter For Sharing Private Details With Saudi Govt

In the recent update, Twitter is being sued by a human rights activist who claims that his personal information is being shared with the Saudi Arabia government.

Ali-Al Ahmed Claims Twitter Leaked His Private Information To Saudi Government

Ali Al-Ahmed, the head of the human rights advocacy organization Institute of Gulf Affairs, filed the lawsuit against Twitter for privacy breach. In his lawsuit, he claims that Twitter had no right to let his information get shared with the Saudi Government and should have done more the protect the same.

As per the reports, he has named two men in the lawsuit who were indicted by the federal prosecutors for working as agents for the Saudi government while working for Twitter.

He further claims that his account was suspended in 2018 and was yet to be reinstated despite multiple appeals. The complaint read that Twitter may want to play the victim of “state-sponsored espionage”, but their conduct of punishing the victimes plays a different story.

The complaint further said that the appease to the beneficial owner and the key market.
Twitter is yet to respond.

Twitter Rolls Out New Ad Features

This comes after Twitter on Tuesday rolled out new ad features and made changes to their algorithm which checks in on the ads the users will see. This comes as a step to lay the groundwork to launch more ecommerce features.

The new feature comes as a part of Twitter expanding it’s performance advertising business to generate sales. It could help their goal of doubling the annual revenue by 2023. The aim is to eventually allow brands to sell their products via twitter by first working on the advertisements their customers would see and its ability to show relevant ads.

Group Product Manager at Twitter, Kamara Benjamin said that performance ads are a huge opportunity but it’s yet to be explored on Twitter. But ultimately, it will lead people to install the apps, visit the websites and find products.
