Hyderabad: 50 percent attendance on first day of schools reopening

Despite the scorching sun and Monsoon delay, as well as misconceptions about school reopening, the new academic year began as scheduled on Monday at all Telangana schools. Even though it was the first day, only half of the students showed up, and only a few private schools continued with online classes. Meanwhile, a few Private Budget Schools extended their summer vacations.

However, amid the reopening excitement, a false circular was circulated on social media on Sunday night, claiming that the Education Department had extended summer vacation by a week due to heavy rains and unfavorable weather conditions in the state.

Ravindra, Math teacher of Government High School, Nallakunta, said, “Today being the first day of the academic year, the attendance was very low. The main reason for student not turning up was because a misleading circular was spread in regards to extension of holidays.”

Due to the rising temperatures, we have decided to keep all classes online until the monsoon arrives. According to a senior officer at Delhi Public School, a large number of students attended the online classes.

As stated by Shiva Ramkrishna, correspondent of St Sai High School, there was a lot of confusion among parents about the reopening of schools due to the fake circular. The school received numerous phone calls from parents inquiring about the school’s reopening.

As per Y Shekar Rao, president of the Telangana Recognized School Managements Association (TRSMA), “as the current weather conditions are not favorable, on humanitarian grounds, the majority of the Private Budget Schools have planned to open schools from June 15 and a few from June 19.”
