Road safety training conducted as schools reopen in Hyderabad

As schools reopened on Monday, station house officers (SHOs) visited students to impart knowledge and raise awareness about road and personal safety.

The initiative, according to a press release, was aimed at educating children and parents about the safety aspects of traveling between home and school, such as road crossing tips, observing signals, hand signals, and so on.

During the summer vacation, the traffic police held special camps where children learned to paint and draw, as well as participated in storytelling, essay writing, quiz and singing competitions.

The city traffic police will meet with school administration, parents, stakeholders, students, and representatives from various government agencies to discuss how to improve coordination and ensure a safe commute.

“Teaching children about road safety will make them responsible adults. They will also urge their parents to follow traffic rules,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, G Sudheer Babu.

According to the press release, various traffic awareness programs were held in 1322 schools between 2022 and 2023, with approximately 137476 students participating.

On Monday, students returned to school after a long summer break, despite the city’s scorching heat.

A significant number of students struggled with a shortage of uniforms and books on the first day of school at government schools. Teachers who were resourceful had to use old publications for bridge coursework.

The government has allocated an additional Rs 60 crore for this academic year to provide notebooks to 24 lakh new students.

Officials expect the shipment of books to be completed by June 20, which coincides with Education Day as part of Telangana’s ongoing centennial celebrations.
