Hyderabad: Community elders ask Muslims to offer Friday Namaz in local mosques

A number of Muslim religious leaders and community elders urged the community to show patience and restraint if any anti-social elements disrupted the Ganesh immersions on the final day.

All of them appealed to the community in their localities to attend local mosque prayers. In his appeal, Maulana Qubool Pasha Quadri said that the time calls for patience rather than anger on the part of Muslims. To protect the social fabric of Hyderabad and Telangana, he asked Muslims not to respond violently to any antisocial elements.

During Friday prayers, he asked people not to travel far for prayers and to pray at local mosques near their homes.

People should set an example of tolerance by foiling the attempts of those who wish to cause trouble, said Mohd Mushtaq Malik, president of Tehreek Muslim Shabban. People should attend prayers at the Jamia Masjid in their locality or any other mosque in Hyderabad. Showing tolerance is a better move than going anywhere and falling prey to radical forces’ attempts to foment trouble during the Ganesh immersion procession, he said.

Sunni United Forum of India’s Hafiz Muzaffar Hussain also encouraged Muslims to attend worship at mosques close to their homes instead of the Ganesh procession routes.

On festivals, he said, it is not wrong to extend festivities to other communities. However, the situation today is quite different as communal forces await opportunities to spread hatred and resort to trouble every time there is an opportunity to do so, he said.

The Government of Telangana declared a general holiday on Friday, September 9, 2022, for Government offices, schools, and colleges in and around Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal districts.

In order to compensate for the holiday, September 17, which is the second Saturday, will be considered a working day, according to the government.
