Hyderabad: Congress leaders stage protest at Gandhi Bhavan over arrest of party leaders

Telangana Congress leaders held protests at Gandhi Bhavan over the ‘unlawful’ detention of Congress Political strategist Sunil Kanugolu for a derogatory social media post about Chief Minister K Chandra Shekar Rao.

Sunil Kanugolu, according to Congress leaders, was detained by the Cyberabad Police, who also carried out searches at his office, seized computers, and arrested 5 others, congress workers, in the office without issuing notices to them.

In response to the call given by the opposition party for protest in all Mandal headquarters, police made a preventive arrest of the leaders.

In protest against the police raid on the party war room in Hyderabad, the Congress had called on the cadres to stage protests in all Mandal headquarters and set fire to effigies of the chief minister.

Senior leaders Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Mallu Ravi, S. Harivardan Reddy, and Rohin Reddy were all placed under house arrest.

Congress MP and in charge of party affairs in Telangana, Manickam Tagore claimed that the Telangana Congress war room, led by Sunil, was raided. He claimed that five of the professional partners were arrested illegally without FIR.  He claimed that the police confiscated 50 computers and that data was stolen.

Tagore tweeted the controversial posts for which the war room was raided. He dared the Telangana chief minister to arrest him.

State Congress chief A Revanth Reddy stated that cyber police terrorizing the staff at the Congress war room demonstrates KCR’s fear of Congress.

He said it was an irony that KCR, his son, and his daughter have all recently preached about democracy and free speech.

MLA Jagga Reddy and other Congress leaders protested against the government at Gandhi Bhavan, demanding to know who the complainants were and demanding that the police produce the FIRs.
