Hyderabad: GHMC to Build Model Corridors in Chandrayangutta, Rajendranagar

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is getting ready to build two model corridors in the Chandrayangutta and Rajendranagar circles. It will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 12 crores.

A three-lane main carriageway adjacent to the central median will be included in the corridors. It also has a six-meter service road alongside the main carriageway.

According to the plan, one of the model corridors will run from the Chandrayangutta flyover to the Mughals colony in the Chandrayangutta circle, and another will run from the Mughals Engineering College to the Durganagar junction in the Rajendranagar circle. Both corridors will cost a total of Rs. 12 crores.

According to the reports, the GHMC intends to complete the project within six months. The General Body and Standing Committee have also given administrative approval.

Since the roads on the corridors will be 150 feet wide, officials will remove encroachments and may acquire properties if necessary.

Reports also said that the roads along the corridors will also have proper stormwater drainage infrastructure.

According to GHMC officials, a main carriageway with three-lane roads (10.50 mts) and a service road can be built without the acquisition of land. Footpaths can be built in some places, and only a few require land acquisition.

The estimate for ‘6 crore was prepared with the widening of the existing main carriageway in mind, officials said. They stated that these roads will have proper stormwater drain infrastructure, making them distinct from other roads in the city. Similarly, according to the Road Development Plan (RDP), the model corridor of 2.10 km length from Chandrayangutta flyover to Moghal Colony has a road width of 150 feet (45 meters), but the carriageway width is only six lanes.

Officials stated that a service road divider and a six-meter-wide Vacuum Dewatered Cement Concrete (VDCC) service road are being proposed. The expenditure for these two corridors will be met from the relevant head of account of the GHMC budget, 2022-23.
