Hyderabad: Ibrahimpatnam hospital inspected by 5-member inquiry committee

Ibrahimpatnam government hospital in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana was inspected by a five-member inquiry committee on Friday. The committee is expected to submit its report by the 5th of this month.

The team also inspected the hospital’s operation theatre and medical equipment. State Director of Public Health Dr. G Srinivasa Rao headed a committee tasked with investigating the deaths of the four women who attended the Double Puncture Laparoscopy (DPL) camp five days ago. Within seven days, the committee will determine the cause of death and submit a report.

On August 25, 34 women underwent sterilization surgery at the government hospital in Ibrahimpatnam. Four of them died, while the other 30 were reportedly unharmed. 17 of them were admitted to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), while 13 were treated at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad.

According to the Director, the superintendent of the hospital where the surgeries were performed has been suspended and the doctor who performed the surgeries has been temporarily stripped of his license. Postmortem results are expected on Thursday, which could shed light on the cause of death for the women.

On Wednesday, the Health Minister paid a visit to NIMS Hospital and inquired about the health of the female patients.

Later, he told reporters that all of the women were safe and that they would be released in two to three days.

In the meantime, Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar has demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao should immediately dismiss Health Minister T Harish Rao and hold him accountable for the death of four poor women during a double puncture laparoscopy at Ibrahimpatnam CHC earlier this week.

According to Bandi Sanjay, the Chief Minister is not bothered about taking action against Harish Rao because he is a family member.
