Hyderabad: IPL season boosts passenger traffic at Stadium Metro Station

The Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) has emerged as a popular mode of transportation to the stadiums as the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches continue to captivate cricket fans. In a city where traffic is a major issue, the metro rail has proven to be a convenient and time-saving method of getting to and from the cricket grounds.

During the IPL season, the Stadium Metro Station in Hyderabad saw an increase in passenger traffic as excited fans flocked to the matches.

On a typical day, the station sees around 3,000 passengers, including both arrivals and departures. However, on match days, the passenger count has risen to an impressive 12,000, with the highest passenger count recorded at 14.5K during one of the matches.

During match days, over 100 dedicated staff members were deployed at the Stadium Metro Station to ensure smooth operations and hassle-free travel for passengers.

According to a spokesperson for L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited, staff members worked tirelessly to manage the increased volume of passengers, even late at night.

Even the first IPL match in Hyderabad in 3 years drew a large crowd of fans to Uppal stadium in April. The hot weather did not deter cricket fans from flocking to the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal to watch the first Indian Premier League (IPL) match in the city in three years, when hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad faced Rajasthan Royals.

While the Metros were packed, the long lines at the Uppal stadium gates indicated that the city crowd had greatly missed the IPL.
