Hyderabad Metro files plea in HC due to rise in power tariffs

The Telangana High Court directed the counsel for the Discoms to get instructions by Tuesday regarding a plea filed by L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited against the power tariffs fixed for operating the metro rail system.

Following Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC)’s approval of an increase in Metro rail’s power tariff, Metro Rail decided to move to the High Court. As per clause 6.4 of the Concession Agreement, the petitioner had submitted a representation to the Government of Telangana Energy Department requesting pricing based on “cost to serve”.

TSERC was informed by the government that, having considered the petitioner’s representations, it had granted permission for TS-SPDCL to create a separate category for the Hyderabad Metro Rail System and fix the taxation as per the settlement agreement.

Counsel explained that if the petitioner is burdened with high tariffs, the high costs of servicing the project will have a negative impact on passengers. The TSERC counsel was instructed to get instructions by Tuesday after the hearing by the division bench.

Hyderabad Metro awarded for green and sustainable system

At the third Rail Analysis Innovation & Excellence Summit 2022 in New Delhi, L&TMRHL was given the “Excellence in Green and Sustainable Metro System” award.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail was commended for its use of clean energy and progress in significantly reducing its environmental impact.

With a focus on an environmentally sustainable mode of operation, Hyderabad Metro Rail uses alternate sources of energy to reduce its carbon footprint and garner an indirect advantage.

Solar plants have been installed in open spaces within the metro depots as well as on the roofs of approximately 28 metro stations, totalling 8.35 MWp. With a Regenerative Braking System that regenerates over 35% energy, the Metro taps into additional energy sources.
