Hyderabad Metro Rail first to use ozone-based sanitization

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL) has introduced ozone-based sanitization of its train coaches, making it India’s first ozone-based sanitization metro rail.

To begin the process, three portable Ozycare Mobizone units have been installed to sanitise the coaches in order to instil confidence in passengers for safe travel during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Ozone sanitization of air and surface has been widely used in hospitals, healthcare, food processing facilities, and water disinfection, among other places, in accordance with the appropriate guidelines.

For the past few months, Hyderabad Metro Rail has rigorously tested Ozycare Mobizone equipment on various metro coaches, followed by testing of the efficacy of the sanitization by a NABL accredited lab, which has attested to the machine’s effectiveness in neutralising more than 99 per cent of pathogens from the air and surface of the coaches.

Based on its effectiveness, Hyderabad Metro Rail is now using the equipment to sanitise metro coaches, providing passengers with a safer travelling experience, according to a press release.

“This is a strategic decision that we have made as part of our confidence-building exercise to make the travellers’ journey safer,” said KVB Reddy, MD & CEO of L&TMRHL.

Some of the advantages are as follows:

  • Elimination and reduction in microscopic organisms
  • Sterilization of any surface and air space in a variety of ways.
  • A process that is both safe and efficient.
  • There are no harmful by-products.
  • Because of controlled usage and destruction, there are no toxic emissions or corrosion.
  • There is no residue to aerate.
  • There is no rinsing required
  • On-site production.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hyderabad Metro Rail has increased COVID-19 safety protocols. This includes strict monitoring and adherence to the safety guidelines. Passengers are required to wear masks at all times, maintain social distance, and submit to mandatory thermal screening before entering the metro premises.
