Hyderabad: Minister and those injured in stampede watch T20 match together

A couple of days after the disarray at Secunderabad’s Gymkhana Grounds, where many people were injured while trying to buy tickets for India’s T-20 international match against Australia, Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud took those injured to Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal to watch the match as a gesture of goodwill.

“Accompanied the injured people to Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal to watch T20 cricket match between India and Australia #IndiavsAUS #IndiavsAUS20I,” the minister tweeted, sharing a video.

On September 23, there was complete chaos when cricket fans who had gone to buy physical tickets clashed with the police. Many people were hurt.

According to reports, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) reportedly informed fans that they could collect physical tickets by showing the QR code, along with identity proof and a photograph. When they got to the ground, the cops stopped them. The fans claimed that they were denied entry even after presenting identification.

The HCA announced at the entrance that it will not be selling tickets at Gymkhana Ground on September 23 and 24, and asked fans to cooperate.

The fans got into an argument with the officers. They were agitated by the lack of clarity regarding the sale of tickets.

Minister Srinivas Goud visited a private hospital in the city on Sunday to inquire about the health of people injured during the stampede.

The Minister had spoken with the injured people and inquired about the hospital’s medical facilities.

The Minister also praised a police constable who rescued a woman during the stampede and stated that he had written a letter to DGP Mahender Reddy requesting an increase and promotion in her service.

He stated that the State government would investigate the alleged irregularities in the sale of match tickets and that those found guilty would face severe punishment.
