Hyderabad police arrest man for using dating app to cheat several people

As per the latest reports, the Hyderabad police arrested a man for cheating several people from the city under the guise of friendship and dating.

Arun of Delhi, along with his friends Mohit, Deepak, Manjeet, Neetu, Solanki, and others, set up a call center in Delhi and operated a dating app called ‘Gigolo Playboy Services.’

According to cybercrime investigators, whenever a man contacted through the dating app, a few girls at the call center interacted with the caller for long hours and duped them into transferring money. “Arun had obtained the money from the victims of the fraud using two of his accounts. He received Rs. 30 lakhs from the victims in both bank accounts,” police said.

A city resident had lost approximately Rs. 1.53 crore to the fraudsters, and the police had opened an investigation based on his complaint. During the investigation, the police identified those involved in the dating fraud and apprehended Arun.

In August, a 25-year-old student from Telangana’s Rangareddy district lost Rs. 98,400 in a dating app fraud.

According to reports, the student met a woman through a dating app. They exchanged WhatsApp numbers after a few conversations.

Later, during a video call with the boy, the woman undressed and recorded the video in which the youth’s face was visible.

The woman began blackmailing him after recording the video. First, she demanded Rs. 22,500 from him.

The woman continued to extract money from him while threatening to send the video to his friends and family.

Before realizing that the blackmail would never end, the youth transferred Rs. 18,400, Rs. 60,000, and Rs. 20,000.

The youth approached the Rachakonda cyber crime police and filed a complaint after discovering the fraud.

Based on the complaint, police opened an investigation into extortion, cheating, and sections of the Information Technology Act.
