Hyderabad: Actress Meera Chopra filed a case against fans of the infamous Tollywood actor Junior NTR to the Hyderabad police. In the complaint, she said that the unidentified fans had sent threatening tweets to her which spoke about gang rapes and acid attacks.
The cybercrime police department booked a case based on the complaint of the actress on Twitter against Jr. NTR’s fans for the abusive comments and threats.
Talking about the comments and further details of the incident, the actress said, “I conducted an ‘Ask Meera’ session on Twitter, and a fan asked me about my favourite actor from the south film industry. I said Mahesh Babu. Then somebody asked if I liked Junior NTR, and I said I don’t know him, and I am not a fan. That’s it. As soon as I said that, I was bombarded with abuses, murder threats, rape threats, character assassination and threats against my parents. I have got close to 30,000 abusive tweets so far.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police K.V.N. Prasad told the mediathey have registered a case under Indian Penal Code’s sections 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and section 67 of the Information Technology Act. He said the police were in the process of identifying the unknown fans, acting upon the case.
Meera also tweeted to the National Commission for Women (NCW) regarding the abusive comments and threats. Commission chairperson Rekha Sharma responded by requesting Telangana police to take action.
Meera tweeted to the Hyderabad police with screenshots of all the abusive and intimidating tweets and asked for their help on this regard.
The actress thanked the NCW and Sharma for helping her filing an FIR. “Safety of women is always compromised but we get our support and strength from people like u,” she tweeted.
Meera was trolled and made fun of by Junior NTR fans for her comment during #AskMeera interactive session that she did not know the actor and that she was not his fan. She also said that she was a fan of actor Mahesh Babu.
Upset over the cheap comments and threats, Meera, cousin of popular actress Priyanka Chopra, lodged a complaint online and the police registered the case.
Meera tweeted to Junior NTR saying she didn’t know it was crime to be a fan of Mahesh Babu. She also tagged Mahesh Babu.
“Well ididnt know not being somebodys fan was a crime.. i want to say this loud to all the girls that if you are not a fan of @tarak9999 , u could be raped, murdered, gangraped, ur parents could be killed as tweeted by his fans. They r totally spoiling the name of their idol,” the actress tweeted.

Meera said she is being called “whore, pornstar, and bitch”. She asked Junior NTR if he feels successful having such an abusive fan base. She also expressed the hope that he would not ignore her tweet.
“@tarak9999 ididntkno that ill be called a bitch, whore and a pornstar, just bcozi like @urstrulyMahesh more then you. And your fans will send my parents such wishes. Do u feel successful with such a fan following? And i hope u dont ignore my tweet!!”
