Hyderabad: Police bust fake education certificate racket

In a joint operation with the Chaitanyapuri police, Rachakonda Special Operations Team busted a fake certificate racket on Tuesday and arrested four individuals, including a woman.

Among the arrested were V Rohith Kumar, an employee of HITEC City, V Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Yousufguda, S Lakshmi (30), Managing Director of SL Overseas Educational Consultancy from Saroornagar, and G Sai Pranay (25), a resident of Sitaphalmandi who had obtained fake certificates with the intention of heading abroad.

Police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat told the media that Sirisala Lakshmi, managing director of SL Overseas Education Consultancy, located at Chaitanyapuri, along with three others, was targeting people seeking shortcuts to go abroad. In exchange for Rs 1 lakh, they provided fake certificates.

“With the assistance of Srinivas Rao and Rohith Kumar, she then began preparing fake educational certificates. She charged each candidate Rs 1 lakh and gave nearly Rs 50,000 to Srinivas Rao,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.

The certificates were forged by Rohith Kumar using Adobe Photoshop software on his laptop.

“He scanned and saved all educational certificates from universities many universities, including JNTU, Kakatiya University, Acharya Nagarjuna, Anna University and others,” Bhagwat said, adding that the complainant was a youngster of the city seeking assistance for documentation and visas in order to pursue a degree in the US.

The man contacted the police after they took Rs.1 lakh from him and gave him fake certificates of Kakatiya University, as well as a recommendation letter for a master’s degree program.

The fake graduation certificates of Kakatiya University were obtained by Sai Pranay, who did not even complete his graduation, in order to seek higher education and employment abroad.

Most of the students obtain fake and forged educational certificates to satisfy the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia Consulates’ requirements for visas, placements in IT sectors, and jobs in private sectors.

From the consultancy, police seized fake consolidated marks memos, degree certificates, provisional certificates, and experience certificates.
