Hyderabad Police file charges against Sharmila for assaulting officers

On Monday, Hyderabad police filed a charge sheet against YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) leader Y.S. Sharmila in a case of assaulting police officers.

The charge sheet was filed in Nampally Criminal Court by the police. Following this development, the court summoned Sharmila and ordered her to appear before it.

Sharmila was charged with various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by Banjara Hills police. Her two drivers were also booked.

A case was filed against Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, after a sub-inspector filed a complaint. She was taken into judicial custody the same day, but she was released on bail the next day.

Sharmila and her drivers were charged under IPC sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from performing his duty), 332 (Voluntarily causing harm to a public servant to deter him from performing his duty), 509 (Word, gesture, or act intended to insult a woman’s modesty), and 427 (Mischief causing damage).

Another case was filed under IPC section 337 (Causing hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, or the personal safety of others).

On April 24, a police team went to Sharmila’s house after receiving information that she was going to the office of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) question paper leak.

Since she did not have permission to visit the SIT office, police officers attempted to explain the situation to her, but she sat in protest and allegedly assaulted officers.

A driver in Sharmila’s car also failed to stop on police orders and hit them, injuring constable Giribabu.

The YSRTP leader is accused of assaulting two sub-inspectors and a female constable.
