Hyderabad: Police make elaborate security arrangements for Durga idol immersion

As per the latest reports, police have made elaborate security arrangements for the Durga Matha idol immersion procession in Hyderabad.

The procession will begin on Thursday evening and will last until early Friday morning. Police anticipate that approximately 6,000 idols will be immersed in Hussainsagar lake. Hundreds of idols will be immersed in Himayatsagar, Osmansagar, Saroornagar, Durgam Cheruvu, Kukatpally lake, Safilguda lake, and other city water bodies.

The Rapid Action Force is stationed in all communally sensitive areas of the city to prevent attempts of anti-social elements to cause trouble. RAF teams are stationed at M J Market, Siddiamber Bazaar, Charminar, and Lal Darwaza to assist local police in the event of any mischief by anti-social elements.

Several idols were taken out in procession and immersed in Hussainsagar on Wednesday. According to the police, PoP idols cannot be immersed in Hussainsagar and immersed in baby ponds in the city.

Higher-ranking officers from the Basheerbagh police command and control center and the newly inaugurated Integrated Command and Control Centre are monitoring the procession and all activity.

At sensitive locations, the Task Force, City Armed Reserve police with the Vajra vehicles (tear gas), and water cannons are deployed.

The Hyderabad traffic police released an advisory in view of the immersion of Durga Matha Idols in Hussain Sagar Lake. On Thursday, traffic will be diverted at NTR Marg and People’s Plaza PV Marg (Necklace Road) from 4 p.m. until the end of immersion.

Traffic diversions

The traffic from the Khairatabad flyover will not be allowed onto NTR Marg at Necklace Rotary but will be diverted via IMAX Theatre towards Mint Compound Road.

The traffic coming from the Ambedkar statue will be diverted to Iqbal Minar and not allowed to reach NTR Marg. At Nallagutta Bridge, similar traffic restrictions will apply, as traffic from Minister Road will not be allowed to cross PV Marg (Necklace Road) and will be diverted towards Karbala at Nallagutta Bridge.

In addition, vehicles coming from Buddha Bhavan will not be allowed to cross Nallagutta Bridge or P.V. Marg (Necklace Road), therefore, people who are going towards Minister Road should take Ranigunj. Due to the above traffic restriction, Hyderabad Police has asked all people to take note of the diversions and cooperate with Hyderabad City Traffic Police.
