According to Swiggy’s most recent report, titled ‘How India Swiggy’d,’ Hyderabad has re-established itself as India’s Biryani capital in 2023. Swiggy, a popular on-demand convenience platform, revealed that every sixth biryani order in the country originated in Hyderabad.
Notably, one ardent Hyderabadi placed 1633 biryani orders in a single year, while the city’s most ardent gourmand paid Rs 37,008 on a single order.
Biryani is the most-ordered dish on Swiggy for the seventh straight year, demonstrating the city’s consistent culinary tastes. Chicken biryani, chicken 65, and idli were among the top five most popular dishes, with a unique factoid showcasing an individual spending Rs 6 lakh exclusively on idlis in 2023.

Snacks popular in the city were maska bun, chicken popcorn, hot chicken wings, veg puff, and samosa. Dessert connoisseurs also enjoyed double ka meetha, apricot delight, gulab jamun, choco lava cake, and double dark chunk chocolate cake.
Apart from home deliveries, Hyderabad’s foodies enjoyed the city’s thriving dining scene. Swiggy Dineout, a service that serves over four lakh consumers, saved a significant Rs 25 crore while incurring a total expenditure of Rs 125.6 crore. Dineout’s largest individual bill was Rs 1,78,507, demonstrating the platform’s impact on dining experiences.
According to the survey, one outstanding individual from Hyderabad demonstrated excellent financial acumen by employing ‘IT’ abilities to save an amazing Rs 5.58 lakh on eating expenses through Swiggy Dineout, the largest savings in India. An astounding 88.23% of orders in the city were paid for online, demonstrating the enormous popularity of digital dining experiences.
