Hyderabad Serial Killer Arrested: Suspect Linked to Three Murders of Footpath Dwellers

The Cyberabad police in Hyderabad have reported the arrest of a “serial killer” who is suspected of being responsible for three murders. Byagari Praveen, a 34-year-old resident of Mailardevpally’s Laxmiguda, reportedly killed two footpath dwellers on the nights of June 20 and 21, and another person on the nights of June 7 and 8, all within the jurisdiction of the Mailardevpally police station.

Praveen targeted victims who were sleeping in various locations, according to Rajendranagar Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagadeshwar Reddy. He struck the first victim with a boulder near Swapna theatre Katedan, then went to Durganagar crossroads and killed the second victim in a similar manner while stealing money from his pocket. Praveen bludgeoned his third victim and stole his money on June 7 in Netajinagar.

Cyberabad police organised special teams to investigate the murders, and the accused was eventually caught. Praveen admitted to the murders in exchange for Rs. 50 or Rs. 100. CCTV evidence from crime scenes was important in his apprehension.

Praveen has a history of criminal activity, having been involved in eight previous incidents, it has been learned. He was previously detained in 2011 and 2014, the latter of which resulted in a life sentence that he was eventually acquitted of. He was also connected to two burglary crimes in 2010 and two snatching incidents in 2011. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Praveen turned to murder for financial gain after being released from prison.
