Hyderabad: Sharmila meets DGP to request security for padayatra

Following the alleged attack on the yatra by Telangana Rashtra Samithi workers in Warangal, YSRTP party leader Y S Sharmila met with DGP Telangana M Mahender Reddy and submitted a memorandum requesting protection for the padayatra.

She stated that it is the police’s responsibility to provide security for the padayatra. “No one can stop the YSRTP in Telangana. I am the daughter of Y S Raja Sekhar Reddy. No one can stop the padayatra,” she told reporters after providing the memorandum to the DGP.

Sharmila claimed that the police falsely charged her and other party workers in Hyderabad for protesting the attack on padayatra at Narsampet Warangal by TRS workers.

She accused the TRS government, including chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his family, of swindling thousands of crores of rupees through liquor licenses and irrigation projects.

“Daughter is earning through liquor business and son in real estate. An inquiry should be done in the projects dealing. All corruption in dealings in Telangana will come to light if an inquiry is done,” she demanded.

Y S Sharmila on Thursday requested Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s intervention in the recent alleged attack on her party activists during her ongoing padayatra and urged the Governor to ask for a report from the State government.

Sharmila, who met Soundararajan at Raj Bhavan with her party leaders, claimed that the ruling TRS was behind the attack near Warangal on Monday.

“For a year and covering 3,500 km across the State, our ‘padayatra’ has been drawing immense response and participation from the people. This sure has not gone well with the TRS government and they have been planning these attacks to lower our morale and keep us away from the people,” Sharmila stated in a memorandum submitted to the Governor.

Sharmila alleged that the attack was carried out with sticks and stones and that disgusting words were hurled at YSRTP workers.

She urged the Governor to request a report on the attack from the Home Ministry and the DGP’s office. She said that this will help “salvage democracy” in the state. Responding to Sharmila’s criticism of the State government, ruling TRS leaders condemned her alleged remarks against the Chief Minister and other party leaders on Wednesday.

Some party leaders claimed that the BJP was behind her.
