Hyderabad student scammed of Rs 10.2 lakh by fraudsters promising MBBS seat

A youngster dreaming of becoming a doctor was scammed out of Rs.10.2 lakh after he fell into a trap laid by fraudsters promising him a government-subsidized seat at a private medical college.

The victim from Malakpet had completed his intermediate from a private college and had also appeared for the NEET examination. However, he was unable to get into the college because of his low rank.

An individual named Manjunath recently contacted him telling him that he had been accepted for an MBBS program and asking him to meet a woman named Tanuja in Bengaluru. A Bengaluru police report said she took him to a private hospital and asked him to pay Rs.20,000 for a reserved seat, which he did.

In later days, she requested Rs.20 lakh for allotment, claiming that it was a government quota seat. The youngster paid Rs.10 lakh as an advance. Upon returning to Hyderabad, however, he discovered that both Manjunath and Tanuja had switched off their mobile phones. Afterwards, he contacted the Hyderabad Cybercrime police, who laid a charge and are investigating.

Telangana police to investigate medical PG seat blocking scam

The Kalolji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) contacted Warangal police on Monday to request a police investigation into allegations of blocking of admission seats by students from other states during the post-graduate medical admission process. 40 suspected names were listed. The 40 names include 12 names flagged by medical students in Telangana.

Vice-chancellor B Karunakar Reddy, in an interview with TOI on Monday, said, “Since none of the 12 students attended the PG medical counselling sessions, the university has filed a police complaint.”.

It has been approved by the state government. The data of all 40 suspected cases have been sent to Warangal police commissioner Tarun Joshi since it isn’t possible for us to verify the details of those from another state.”
