Hyderabad: The UFERWA project aims to make the city garbage free

According to the latest reports, members of the United Federation of Residential Welfare Association (UFERWA) have launched a project that aims to make the city free of garbage.

On the ground, waste can be found piled up on main roads in numerous regions. To generate awareness and also to see that garbage gets segregated in a proper manner, members of the United Federation of Residential Welfare Association (UFERWA) have started a campaign to awaken the concerned officials and also to generate awareness amongst the locals.  According to a study conducted by UFERWA members, trash is seen thrown on main roads in numerous areas, including Monda Market, Moghalpura, Kishanbagh, Musheerabad, Santoshnagar, and Bholakpur, making it difficult for residents to commute. Despite complaints, garbage collectors are refusing to remove it.

“Citizen entitlement campaign was initiated in 2018 and carried out until 2020. The GHMC recently removed bins, as a bin-free city requires regular garbage clearance from streets. This appears to be a failing mission, as we discovered throughout our assessment that waste is dumped on roads in several areas. We intend to re-launch the campaign in order to raise awareness and educate locals,” said Syed Khaled Shah, a member of UFRWA and convener of the Secunderabad zone.

He stated that the campaign’s goal is to bring issues to the attention of higher authorities in order to ensure that complaints are resolved in a timely and accountable manner.

“Because waste is not being properly segregated, we intend to ask the relevant officials how garbage is to be separated.  In addition, we will visit each colony and educate inhabitants on hygiene, as well as raise awareness about dry and wet trash.  Moreover, the main reason for the delay in addressing many concerns is that GHMC officials had a habit of interacting with the resident welfare associations on a regular basis. The majority of concerns were addressed. It would be preferable if it could be restored. Our main goal is to clean up the waste that has been placed on city streets. Various non-governmental organizations will collaborate with us on this project. This campaign will be carried out zone by zone,” said a UFERWA member.
