Hyderabad to be dotted with model corridors soon

Hyderabad is keeping up its pace as a city that is increasingly becoming a model for other cities in terms of infrastructure development. The most recent addition to the list is model corridors, which will soon be dotted throughout the city, along with junction development and beautification.

The corporation has already agreed to develop or reshape the Bandlaguda Main Road to Aramghar stretch into a model corridor, and plans are in the works to develop the entire Masab Tank-Mehdipatnam-Gachibowli stretch along the same lines.

A three-lane main carriageway adjacent to the central median and a 6-meter service road adjacent to the main carriageway will be built under the model corridor, with a curb demarcating both roads.

These model corridors provide more than just seamless commuting. They will have exclusive facilities for cyclists and pedestrians in-store. A 1.8-meter bicycle track will be built adjacent to the service road, and another curb will separate cyclists from traffic on service roads, while a greenery-filled pavement will be built adjacent to the cycle track.

The exclusive stormwater drain infrastructure for these roads would also set them apart from the rest of the city’s roads. All of this infrastructure will be built on a 75-foot road on one side of the central median and the opposite side of the central median.

A GHMC official said that stagnant water damages even the best quality bitumen. The water will be drained quickly by the stormwater drains along these roads. The road should be at least 150 feet wide for the development of a model corridor.

These infrastructure improvements are in addition to the 12 junction improvement projects proposed throughout the city. The proposal to improve and beautify the Aramghar junction for which Rs 263.50 lakh has been approved and 11 other junctions will be developed along the same lines.
