Hyderabad: UK-based pharma firm to set up laboratory

Surface Measurement Systems, a UK-based pharma major, announced the opening of a particle characterization laboratory in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

After meeting with the leadership of the company in London, the state IT minister KTR made the announcement.

7,000 square meters will be devoted to the facility. Pharma powder characterisation will be the focus of this state-of-the-art laboratory. Indian and international pharmaceutical companies are expected to be the target customers for the facility.

I am delighted to announce Surface Measurement Systems’ entry into Hyderabad. The establishment of this facility, a first-of-its-kind in the city, exemplifies the city’s position as a leader in the pharmaceutical sector and will facilitate the sector’s growth, said KTR.

Surface Measurement Systems is an industry leader in powder characterization instruments. The company invented the Dynamic Vapour Sorption (DVS) instrument. With a strong patent and science foundation, the company has business units in the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, China and India.

Minister KTR met with Lord Karan Bilimora, president of the Confederation of British Industry, on the second day of his UK trip.

The MPs present at the meeting and the other participants were briefed on Telangana’s trailblazing initiatives. He mentioned that Telangana and Hyderabad are among the top investment destinations in IT, life sciences, pharma, aerospace, and food processing.

He spoke in another meeting organized by Tech UK about collaboration between the UK and India in fields such as artificial intelligence, cleantech, health technology, and agritech.

In addition, Hyderabad is already home to several marquee companies focusing on developing cutting-edge technologies, he added, stating Tech UK and the Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HySEA) can cooperate to offer SMEs a platform for exploring opportunities.

Previously, Rama Rao was welcomed in London by Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Dr Andrew Fleming, Telangana Association of UK Founder Anil Kurmachalam, National Convenor Ashok Goud Dusari, and NRIs from Telangana in the UK.
