Hyderabad: Youth Congress workers set scooter ablaze during protest at ED office

The protests at the Enforcement Directorate office took a bit of a violent turn as Youth Congress activists set a scooter on fire, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of targeting Ms. Gandhi for speaking out against the “anti-people policies” of the government.

A massive rally was held by Congress workers outside the ED office in the city, led by TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy and jointly attended by Bhatti Vikramarka, T. Jeevan Reddy, and Madhu Yaskhi Goud. They alleged deliberate harassment of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in relation to the closed National Herald case.

The rally was held from the Indira Gandhi statue on Necklace Road to the regional office of the ED. There was traffic disruption on several roads surrounding the ED office in Hussainsagar and Basheerbagh due to the massive gathering of Congress workers wearing black clothes and carrying black balloons.

At Basheerbagh, several Congress party and Youth Congress workers were staging a protest when some individuals set a scooter on fire. The fire was put out by the police and the situation was brought under control.

Mr. Revanth Reddy said during the protest at the ED office that the entire Telangana community was behind Ms. Gandhi and that Mr. Modi’s effort was only to insult Ms. Gandhi by using central agencies that had turned into Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) extended wings. While the entire country is having to suffer from Mr. Modi’s economic failures and rising prices making people’s lives miserable, the BJP sought to divert the nation’s attention in order to avoid debate in Parliament.

He recalled Ms. Gandhi’s family sacrifices since Independence, saying she had served people despite the loss of her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi and husband Rajiv Gandhi to terrorist activities.
