Hyderabad’s road infrastructure set for major upgrade with 11 more SRDP projects in 2023

The push to improve the city’s road infrastructure will continue in 2023, not only to address the current chaos but also to plan for decades to come.

In the coming months, the State government’s flagship Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), under which a series of flyovers, underpasses, and other facilities are being built across the city, is expected to provide a much more comfortable commuting experience and save on commute time.

A series of new facilities for vehicular movement will be opened in various parts as work progresses at a rapid pace. Approximately 11 SRDP projects will be completed this year, according to officials.

The Bairamalguda 2nd level flyover, a six-lane flyover from Aramgarh to Zoo Park route, the Nalgonda X Roads to Owaisi Junction flyover, and two flyovers in the Bagh Lingampally-Indira Park area are currently under construction.

These SRDP projects are intended to cover major traffic corridors and activity centres on all four sides of the city, as well as meet Hyderabad’s traffic needs in the coming decades.

The 2.62-kilometer four-lane bidirectional flyover between Indira Park and VST, as well as the 850-meter three-lane bidirectional flyover between Ram Nagar and Bagh Lingampally, will relieve traffic congestion from Indira Park to VST Junction and Ram Nagar to Bagh Lingampally. Other advantages of the project include free traffic flow towards Hindi Maha Vidyalaya and Osmania University.

Similarly, when completed and opened, the 4.048 km flyover route from Aramghar to Nehru Zoological Park will benefit a large number of commuters in the old city as well as visitors to the Nehru Zoological Park.

This facility will be a six-lane bi-directional flyover, the second longest flyover after PVNR Expressway.

“Based on the flow of funds and with minimal land acquisition, the SRDP works are prioritised. In addition to the assistance from the State government, finances required for the projects are met from GHMC funds mobilised by way of raising term loans, floating bonds etc,” said a GHMC official.
